December 2nd - Rundgång

It’s no secret that Radio Sidekick is all about the free downloading of mp3s. But we also love the actual record and still heads down to the record store to check out all the new vinyl. One of our absolute favourite stores is Rundgång here in Malmö, Sweden.
It’s a great store with all kind of music, clothes and they often have arrange different kind of events and concerts. We’ve asked Dennis from Rundgång to list his favourites from 2007. This is what he came up with.

Year 2007
I’ve got a mission to write something about 2007, especially a couple of tunes that meant something to me.
But instead I’m gonna start to list the best concerts that I’ve seen (still, it could be more because the year is not over yet and I have to see 1990’s and Caribou).

2007 was the year when Rundgång/Deleted arranged more concerts than ever. This resulted in that we’ve experienced some amazing concerts. Some of these were really extraordinary according to my ears.

Pistol Disco – The day before midsummer, what a distorted inferno it became. And at the same time good rhythm so the whole store was rocking.

Cap Pas Cap – Möllevångsfestival and our grand new opening. These Irish knew how to use a cowbell! They had played at the eminent club High Five at the Debaser the day before. And someone tipped them off to check out our record store. They got so delighted that they ruined them self by shopping a lot of records. At the same time they took the opportunity to ask if they could do a gig at the store later that evening because there was other bands that was also playing. And if it was good the day before it was magical in our store.

Other concerts I don’t want to forget is: Psychic Ills (US) from N.Y., Creeping Nobodies (Can) did a gig in our store when we arranged a very successful festival. Another one of those bands where Pulse Emitter (US), fantastic kind of modulsystem music. Graveyard (GBG), Fuck With Eyes (Malmö) unfortunately no longer existing, KLoAK (DK) and many, many more.
And all of these played in our little store.

Finally I want to mention MOHA!. Two men from Norway that hit us in Malmö with amazement. They have managed to do two gigs in our store this year. They are our NEW FAVOURITE BAND LIVE!!

But of course, I’ve been to gigs at other locations as well. Cut City at the club High Five were really nice. Liars at Debaser worked for me. Wildbirds and Peacedrums at the El Patio festival was also one of those damn good shows that I unfortunately had to leave before it was over… well, well. And Ben Frost or benfrost as we call him. He played on the festival Full Pull at Inkonst and he was absolutely the best one there.

The thing with music is strange, you can discover new things at any time. 2007 was the year when I discovered the American hardcore punk genre from the early 80’s. Thanks to my colleagues at Rundgång/Deleted.
Songs like Edge with Minor Threat, Word Attack with Adolescents and Attitude with Bad Brains is really, really good.

Another tune that I discovered from my club colleague Erik this fall was Richard Bones Radiation, a real synthpop smoker from the dance floor. My, my, my... we’ve been dancing to this all year.

The list of new song that showed up in my life is endless but here is a few.
Ben Frost - Swarm
Familjen - Det snurrar i min skalle
Cap Pas Cap - Said say it
Fuck With Eyes - Sit down and die
Randy Barracuda - Skweee like a pig
VED - Liquid Shadows
Tussle - Warning
Gossip - STANDING IN THE WAY OF CONTROL (Headman remix)
Gossip - Careless Whisper

+ all the long and haaaaaard electro accustic songs that I’m too tired to list at the moment.

2007 was good year for music but it could have been better, in my case because I had to take a second job on the side to survive. To all of you who reads this, if you love music, show it. Buy records, go to concerts. Let yourself get dragged in to happiness, because you get happy when you’re on your way home on a Friday night with fresh vinyl in you’re bag. Or on a party before a concert you’ve been waiting for a really long time. Let go, let the music take over.

See you in 2008

Best Regards
Dennis Lood
